In the Philippines, we celebrate the Philippine Heart Month every February and Maria Reyna Xavier University Hospital is always enthusiastic to celebrate this occasion. This year we had the theme “One Heart, One Nation, One Music”.

Last February 14 we gave a 30% discount on our ECG service. For those who don’t know ECG or Electrocardiogram is a medical test that detects heart problems by measuring the electrical activity generated by the heart as it contracts.

With help from our Cardio Doctors headed by Dr. Roy Sassil, they have given us free lectures plus free acoustic. One of the lectures was Angina. Angina is chest pain or discomfort caused when your heart muscle doesn’t get enough oxygen-rich blood. It may feel like pressure or squeezing in your chest. The discomfort also can occur in your shoulders, arms, neck, jaw, or back. Angina pain may even feel like indigestion. But, angina is not a disease.

Cardio Rehab was also discussed it is designed to help patients with heart disease recover faster and return to full and productive lives. The program is composed of 3 phases: Phase I or In-patient Phase, Phase II or Early Recovery Phase and Phase III or Maintenance Phase.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), heart diseases are among the leading causes of death in the country.
